What to Do with an Idea?

Oftentimes children's books have a bigger and more eloquent message than 'adult' books.  They might be fun for a child to listen to, but often, tucked underneath the words lies a meaning that can shape the reader, perhaps most often the parent?  My sister, a soon to be an amazing children's book author, is always doing research on the market. She recently picked up the book What Do You Do With an Idea? by Kobi Yamada and told me to read it.  I did and it brought me to tears.  You can listen to it here.  

'But there was something magical about my idea. I had to admit, I felt better and happier when it was around.'

It was in the vein of Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic, which she talks about an idea that keeps coming into your consciousness, but this short book sums up the magic of an idea and how it has the ability to change your world.  You might tuck it away, feed it, share it with people who don't understand, you might even get rididuled but if you stay with this idea, something miraculous can happen.  

'I built it a new house, one with an open roof where it could look up to the stars -- a place where it could be safe to dream.'

The message here? Dream big! Don't get discouraged what other people might think of your idea, let alone your dreams. They are yours and only yours! Anything that you focus on expands (good or bad), so don't be held back, bring your idea to life.
